LWV ENERGY MATTERS COMMITTEE ACTIVITIES
* Arranged a LWV public forum held November 10, "Columbia’s Future Power Supply", featuring Columbia Water & Light director, Dan Dasho; also provided educational materials on renewable energy sources for attendees and the press;
* Analyzed and discussed the city’s power supply reports and renewable energy proposals; kept abreast of developments through conversations with W&L staff and by regularly attending Water & Light Advisory Board meetings (LWV was generally the only representative of the public);
* Presented information on local and state energy issues at three LWV Unit Meetings in March; this included discussion of options being considered by Columbia for new power supplies, global warming, wind energy developments in Missouri, and LWVMO priority legislation requiring Missouri utilities to utilize renewable energy;
* Attended a day-long renewable energy conference at the University of Missouri-Columbia in April which included state and national experts on solar, wind, and bio-energy;
* Learned about the technology and cost of a residential solar water heater in a presentation by Henry Rentz, Missouri Valley Renewable Energy Co.;
* Provided energy conservation tips and information about the new federal energy tax credits for residential solar energy systems in the local LWV Voter;
* Prepared an exhibit on global warming for the LWV booth at the Earth Day Fair on April 23; a new, colorful display of red, white and blue pinwheels, signifying wind power, drew attention to the exhibit; 150 pinwheels were given to children; many adults picked up League membership flyers as well as informative materials on energy efficiency and renewable energy;
